| Put log holes can be identified by being constructed of a long thin flint or limestone/sandstone lintel above with its either end resting on stones making the sides. The width of the resulting square hole is approximately six inches. The hole was therefore kept permanently open and the scaffolding could be inserted and removed at will. | |
