St Laurence's Church

The photo below is of part of the south wall of the church and shows a plaque marking the location of the west gate of Reading Abbey. This
was one of the Abbey's three outer gates and was called the Compter Gate because it contained a small prison. It was demolished in 1786.
This area was the site of another structure now demolished, the Blagrave Piazza, built in the 17th century. Information can be found
on the Abbey Quarter website Blagrave St page, with an image showing the Piazza on the Market Place page.

Mid-19th century drinking fountain on the south side of the tower. A listed structure.
